Vancouver, BC (May 29th, 2015) – The BC Ministry of Transport awarded contractor Trans-Western Electrical Ltd to extend the communications infrastructure of HWY 91 / HWY 91A.TWE aligned with long-time partner,AxisTech, for the installation, termination and testing of the designed fibre optic cable system.

To execute the complex project, the results-driven teams provided the large-scale communications infrastructure project with planning, expertise, knowledge, safety, and security policies, and with custom built equipment and machinery.

With a mandate to connect all transportation facilities, the scope of the 11km project involved delivering fibre optic communications to multiple municipalities, departments, and facilities within the provincial government throughout British Columbia. Ministries, departments and facilities can take advantage of the fibre optic network to enhance communication applications for: transportation, Ecomm (emergency preparedness), traffic control and monitoring, lighting, and beyond.

The complex challenges of the HWY 91/ HWY 91A undertaking included:
• Installing New and Upgrade Existing Conduits and Communications Junction Boxes
• Pulling 11km of Fibre Optic Cable through Two Bridges
• Continuous Lane Closures and Traffic Control
• Extensive Nighttime Deployment
• Heightened Safety and Security Plan
• Strict Ministry Requirements
• Demanding Timeframe

The South Fraser perimeter road is the geographic area connecting the city of New Westminster, Queensborough and Alex Fraser Bridges to Delta Port.

The need for accelerated speed of real-time communications, emergency response, security and surveillance, weather monitoring, provided the impetus for the large-scale communications infrastructure undertaking. The HWY 91 / HWY 91A technology-driven solution will greatly enhance the critical response times for police, fire and ambulatory team while answering the call-of-duty.
